The Campari Club - Central Otago Tour, April 18-19
(see the bottom of this page for further details, cost and bookings!)

Campari_bottle.jpg (3579 byte)Following the huge success of my Tours to Italy, which began in 2004, everyone on each tour became friends and wanted to stay in touch with each other.  They wanted to keep up to date with my cooking classes, to know about future tours and hear any news from Isabella and Luigi in Italy.

Consequently I established  the exclusive "Campari Club" to fill that need.

Once you have been on one of my tours to Italy you automatically become a member of the "Campari Club" – an elite group of travellers who enjoy loads of laughter and fun, splendid sightseeing and the history and culture of Italy, and who are passionate about great food and wine whichever side of the world they are on!

Campari is an Italian pre dinner apertivo developed by Gaspare Campari in 1860. It is a rich red colour, herbal based, with a bitter taste. It can be served straight in a small glass, but most people prefer it mixed with soda, retaining some of the bitter taste, or mixed with orange juice, taking the edge from the bitterness and giving it a sweeter taste. It can be made into a cocktail with vodka, or cinzano rosso, and always benefits from ice cubes and is often dressed with orange or lemon segments. Campari has been produced in the north of Italy, near the town of Alba, since 1860. The precise concoction of herbs steeped in alcoholic spirits is still a family held secret.

Isabella introduced me to Campari on my first tour.  Many times as the tour group had free time in a village or city she would be found sitting in the Piazza sipping a Campari.  I would often join her and came to enjoy this drink that arrived premixed in its own little bottle.  I still enjoy a Campari daily at home - usually before dinner with my husband Phillip.

The Campari Club meets 2- 3 times a year.  After each tour the group becomes a little larger.  We meet at a restaurant, or a bar for drinks and sometimes dinner.  In February 2007 the “Patron Saint” of the Campari Club, Isabella Dusi, arrived from Italy and provided us with an entertaining and informative evening speaking about her life and Italy. It was a great reunion; Campari Club members arrived from all over the country.

Isabella Dusi and her husband Luigi are my Italian Tour Hosts. You can find out more about Isabella and Luigi and my Italian tours at my Tours page.

I invite you to join me on one of my Tours to Italy - it will provide you with the opportunity to get to the heart of Italy.  I hope to meet you very soon - you will love it. . It is an experience of Italy, her people, countryside, history, art, farms and producers you will never forget.

And we’ll welcome you into The Campari Club!

Campari Club

Central Otago April 18 – 19

Ciao everyone,

I have planned a trip into Central Otago for members of the exclusive Campari Club.

I thought it would be a great opportunity to meet up with your tour group friends and at the same time enjoy our own beautiful Central Otago in Autumn.

Central Otago comes into its own at this time of the year. The Autumn colours are outstanding and pumpkins, walnuts, dried fruits from the summer are all in abundance.

The trip comprises of a two day bus excursion leaving Dunedin on Saturday \8th April at 8 am and returning Sunday around 5.30 pm.

It will include gardens, wine tasting, saffron and olive farms, two great lunches, a beautiful dinner and lovely accommodation.

Saturday 18th April

Owned by my best friends Cally and Wendy – this is a creative hideaway.

12.00 – Saffron in Central Otago – I am hoping that the saffron will be flowering and they may be picking at this time.

Organic Olive Grove – Too early for picking – but the fruit should be dripping off the trees.

1.30 Mt Difficulty – Wine tasting and platters. Sitting on the fabulous plateau above the Bannockburn Vineyards.

3.30 Travel to Wanaka

Accommodation – Oakridge resort. Chance to walk around Wanaka shops or around the lake.

Take a swim in the heated pool or relax in one of the spas.
